Guests at The Villa Mariana often find the property so inviting that they prefer to remain on-site; however, the surrounding areas of Manuel Antonio and Quepos provide a wealth of outdoor activities suited to various interests, from adventurous pursuits to more relaxed explorations. Activity costs generally range from $85 to $125 per person, varying by type and group size; custom quotes are available for options such as deep-sea fishing or private catamaran charters. Our concierge, Lenin, will assist in selecting and reserving suitable excursions to ensure a well-coordinated experience. Inquire with Lenin for the most updated rates for each excursion.
Most operators include round-trip transportation from The Villa Mariana, along with at least one meal (and typically two for full-day excursions). Below is a selection of recommended activities:
ATV or Buggy Tours: Navigate off-road trails through rainforests and palm plantations, crossing rivers and waterfalls—suitable for those seeking excitement.
Canopy and Ziplining Adventures: Traverse elevated bridges or experience Central America's longest twin zipline, offering panoramic views of the treetops.
Whitewater Rafting or Tubing: Navigate Class II-III rapids on the Savegre River or enjoy a gentle float on inner tubes, with opportunities for wildlife observation—appropriate for families.
Rappelling and Canyoning: Descend waterfalls and rock faces for an engaging jungle experience.
Spice Tours: Visit organic farms to learn about and sample spices such as cinnamon and vanilla, including interactive chocolate-making sessions.
Catamaran or Mangrove Boat Tours: Embark on a sunset cruise with snorkeling opportunities or a guided mangrove excursion to observe monkeys and birds.
Deep-Sea Fishing: Depart from the nearby Marina Pez Vela (accessible by a short walk or taxi, with stairs to navigate) to target species like marlin, sailfish, and tuna; this is the area's primary departure point.
For a quintessential outing, a guided tour of Manuel Antonio National Park offers sightings of sloths, monkeys, and pristine turquoise beaches; however, many guests report that the villa's poolside patio and grounds provide comparable or greater wildlife encounters without the need to depart the property.
Upon booking The Villa Mariana, we will introduce you to Lenin to begin developing your itinerary. He will manage quotes, reservations, and adjustments to create a memorable visit.
The Villa Mariana is conveniently located near several pristine beaches in Manuel Antonio, with most within 1-2 miles. Access varies by beach, offering options for walking, driving, or a short taxi ride. Our concierge, Lenin, can arrange transportation if needed. Below is a summary of key nearby beaches:
Playa La Macha: A secluded private beach directly behind the property, accessible only by foot via a scenic hiking trail (no vehicles permitted). The walk typically takes about 25 minutes, depending on fitness level—ideal for those seeking a peaceful, nature-immersed approach.
Playa Playitas: Approximately 3-5 minutes by car; a favored spot for its relaxed atmosphere. At low tide, vehicles can access the beach for convenient parking near the water's edge, making it easy to transport beach essentials.
Playa Espadilla: The primary public beach adjacent to Manuel Antonio National Park, reachable in 3-5 minutes by car. It features calm waters, ample space for sunbathing, and proximity to park entrances for combined beach and hiking outings.
Playa Manuel Antonio: The area's most renowned public beach, reachable in 3-5 minutes by car. Amenities include rentals for chairs, loungers, and umbrellas, along with surf lessons, on-site massage services, and food vendors for a full-service experience.
These beaches showcase Costa Rica's stunning coastline, from hidden coves to lively shores. For tide schedules, gear rentals, or guided access, consult Lenin upon arrival.
The Villa Mariana's location in Quepos offers excellent opportunities for hiking and exercise, allowing guests to maintain their routines amid the natural beauty of Manuel Antonio. Whether you prefer structured workouts or scenic trails, options are conveniently nearby. Our concierge, Lenin, can provide maps, tide charts, or transportation assistance as needed. Below are recommended activities:
The Hill Workout: A challenging incline exercise begins at the property's front gate—exit and turn left to descend the hill to the Super Enano store at the base (where affordable bananas are available). Return by ascending the hill. This can be adapted to your pace, whether running, jogging, or walking. We suggest completing it early in the morning to avoid midday heat; many guests aim for 2-3 repetitions before breakfast.
The Hill + Steps Extension: Enhance the hill workout by incorporating the staircase to the marina, located midway down the hill on the left (offering stunning views). Descend and ascend the steps between hill repeats for added intensity and scenery.
Hike to Playa La Macha: Access this private beach behind the property via a moderate trail, taking 20-45 minutes each way depending on fitness level (even those with limited activity can complete it in about 45-55 minutes round-trip). Directions: Exit the front gate, turn left, then take the first left along the fence line. Follow the dirt road, veering left at the split behind the property and right at subsequent forks until you hear the waves—take the left trail to the beach. Always consult an online tide schedule to ensure beach access.
MA Fitness Gym: A well-equipped facility in Manuel Antonio provides comprehensive strength and cardio options, just a short drive away.
On-Property Walking Trail: A gentle loop starts behind the guest house (access via the deck and follow the steps) and concludes at the rear of the main house—perfect for a quick, shaded stroll.
Yoga Deck on the Property: Enjoy sunrise or sunset sessions on our dedicated yoga deck, offering panoramic views and a serene setting for personal practice or group classes. Lenin can arrange a certified yoga instructor to lead tailored sessions for your group, accommodating various levels and themes.
These activities integrate seamlessly with your stay, promoting both fitness and relaxation. For personalized recommendations or group sessions, contact Lenin upon booking.
